" SINCLAIR LEWIS was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, in 1885.
He had already published several novels before establishing his reputation with the publication of Main Street in 1920.
This was followed by Babbitt in 1922, Arrowsmith in 1925, and other best sellers.
In 1930 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature "for his powerful and vivid art of description and his ability to use wit and humor in the creation of original characters."
Mr. Lewis died in Italy in 1951. "
